The evening of One Thousand and One Falafels

by Addison Road Community Centre Organisation

Description

Come together under the stars at Addison Road Community Centre to enjoy an evening of conversation, music and food, with the unifying power of falafel as the focus! We will think and talk about shared dishes and shared experiences, about culture, cuisine and community, flying falafel in the face of racism and division.

Cultural producer Paula Abood will kick off the conversations with the inaugural ‘Post-Colonial Feminist Falafel Lecture’. An open mic will allow everybody to contribute to a discussion of the meaning of National Unity Week, to question, to suggest, to sing or perform.

Former mayor of Marrickville and falafel connoisseur extraordinaire, Inner West Councillor Sam Iskandar will judge the best falafel. Will the winner be a recipe from Syria or Sylvania, Palestine or Padstow, Lebanon or Leichhardt? Bring your own favourite falafel, or buy fresh from our Egyptian Street Food truck, Koshari Korner.
