Solidarity – Together We Rise
“Our knowledge has made us cynical, our cleverness, hard and unkind. We think too much and feel too little. More than machinery, we need humanity. More than cleverness, we need kindness and gentleness.”
It only takes a cursory look around to see that the world is more divided than it has ever been. We are surrounded by global conflicts and divisive political rhetoric that pits us against each other. You are either with us or against us. Finding a middle ground for resolving our conflicts and differences has disappeared. We are witness to the results with countless lives lost, families ripped apart and our environment being decimated. Greed has poisoned the soul of humanity leaving us less kind and less gentle.
What a bleak picture it seems to leave us in. Can we rise to see that we need each other to create a better world? That now more than ever we need to come together to fight the oppressive systems that have led to the torture and imprisonment of innocent men and women around the world, the systems that have created divisions amongst us, the systems that have dehumanized who we are.
Let us ask ourselves why we play a role in these systems of oppression? How can we create a system where freedom is not some utopic idea but something that can be the lived experience of all of us? As Charlie Chaplin would go on to say, “You the people have the power – the power to create machines, the power to create happiness!”
We are the ultimate creators and changemakers, we can work to create a world filled with love for one another putting aside our differences and seeing that through solidarity, together we rise.
